That one killer view from a 3rd of the way down the scree slope! The turquoise and green emerald lakes of Mt Tongarito.
I took this photo on the Tongariro alpine crossing back in February. There was a fair amount of cloud clinging to the ranges which made it impossible to take any decent photos of the red crater and Ngaruhoe. But with this shot the cloud added quite a gloomy element in contrast to sun lit lakes.
As you can see by the steady line of people on the left , this walk as become one of, if not the most popular day walk in New Zealand.
