Here’s an image that’s been knocking around in my archives since back in 2015 when I was still roaming Europe.
A shot of Schloss Neuschwanstein from Marienbrücke, the bridge over the Pollät gorge.
The 19th century Castle sits on a hill above the village of Hohenschwangau in southwest Bavaria, Germany.
The palace was commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, as a retreat and also in honour of the great composer Richard Wagner, who’s performances King Ludwig II was a huge fan of. Ludwig paid for the palace out of his personal fortune and by means of extensive borrowing, rather than Bavarian public funds.
The castle was intended as a home for the king, until his death in 1886. It was open to the public shortly after his death. More recently an average of more than 1.3 million people visit the castle annually.
This image is a blend of 3 bracketed exposures. (Underexposed, correctly exposed & overexposed images of the same scene). I used it as an exercise back when I started learning to use the layers and masks system for manual blending in Photoshop.
By doing this I intended to bring detail back into the sky highlights, create dramatic looking clouds in the background, and add emphasis to the foreground.
