I took this photo about 3 weeks ago from one of the lookouts at Muriwai Gannet colony.
The southern end of Muriwai beach is an established breeding area for Gannets.
About 1200 pairs of adult gannets nest here each summer and can be seen between August and March each year.
Although currently It’s technically outside of the Gannet’s breeding season, there are still significant numbers of birds already nesting.
We managed to stay until evening on the Sunday to capture the already stunning view during sunset.
