I spent three days in Istanbul, Turkey, in August 2015 before travelling on to northern Cyprus.
The city well exceeded my expectations.
Besides the rich culture and deep history, there was an almost overwelming sence of presence in the place to please all senses. The smells of spices and shisha, the taste of the char grilled meats and the sounds of the prayers being called across the city, all added to the atmosphere.
Istanbul really does have a lot to offer and in my opinion is well worth a visit.
